Phase 1
A friend suggested that I draw Pan. It's an awesome idea as I have always wanted to draw a satyr but I never got to it, somehow. Well, now is the time!
A satyr is a mythological creature, half-man, half-goat. The goat's hindquarters is a bit tricky, so I did some research (looked at photos, etc.) before sketching. I found that by comparison, goat hindquarters are quite similar to a wolf's, save the cleft hooves.
Here's the outline - notice that his arms are ready to receive a musical instrument. |
Phase 2
Added facial features, pointy, like that of a goat.
Added horns & goat ears on his head.
Changed up the position of one of his legs. It was bent awkwardly in the previous sketch.
Added details to figure. |
Phase 3
Drew in thick, wavy hair.
Drew in Pan's set of musical pipes.
Added fur on hindquarters & a belt of vines around hips.
Added string ornaments on horns, bands on arms & rings on fingers.
|
Phase 4
Outlined pencil sketch with ink. I made a few minor changes as I inked:
Added beads on horn ornaments.
Changed up the eyes, so they slant & look exotic.
|
Phase 5
Shaded-in torso & face.
The face turned out awesome - I'm happy with the outcome.
I'm not too happy with the forearm resting on the pipes - needs more shadow. |
Phase 6
Shaded-in fur on lower extremities. It looks pretty good for my first time with this type of texture.
Corrected the forearm problem, mentioned in previous phase. |
Phase 7
Shaded-in hair.
|
Phase 8
Shaded-in jewelry, ornaments & instrument. |
Phase 8
Shaded-in jewelry, ornaments & instrument. |
Phase 9
Added background with varied elements of trees, shrubbery & weeds. |
Phase 10
Shaded-in background.
Added some rocks & another shrub in the foreground as an afterthought.
Finished! |
