Phase 1
I'm throwing in a head & shoulder study because most of my drawings are of whole figures. So, it's nice to put in a variant.
Here's Hades considering Demeter's proposition on the frequency of Persephone's visits above ground.
The King of the Underworld has strong facial features, broad arms & a pair of ram's horns. |
Phase 2
Added more detail on Hades' face & then wild hair to frame his face. Smoothened the contours of his horns.
He needs jewelry to make him look god-like. Perhaps a crown, bracelets, arm bands & ornaments around his horn. |
Phase 3
I've added jewelry & ornaments then, cleaned up the lines.
It's now ready for outlining in ink. |
Phase 4
Outlined in ink, which didn't take long because there are only a few tiny elements in the drawing.
I'm going to give Hades dark hair & ivory horns to create contrast. The background will be a gradient gray to black. |
Phase 5
Rendered face, shoulder & arm. Shading on the shoulder needs polishing.
Next, I'll tackle the hair. |
Phase 6
Shaded the hair, which took me more than an hour because it could easily be classified as a mane due to its volume! |
Phase 7
Rendered textures on jewelry & ornaments. I've also lightened his eyebrows a bit. |
Phase 8
Added a gradient "thatched" background. It's feathered at the corner where the horn-ornaments are, so the detailing would stand out.
I was not quite happy with the face. I thought there was something off or lacking so most of the edit was done on it.
Lightened the eyes, the edges of the brows & the wrinkles on the mouth. Then, added volume to the lashes & shadow just underneath the tip of the nose (so it won't look much like a beak). I also darkened the highlights on his hair. |
